Asparagus & Cheese Wrap with a Maple Thyme Glaze

Crispy puff pastry, tender asparagus, creamy Boursin and a sweet maple glaze. The perfect appetizer for any occasion.

Servings 12 pieces

  • 2 sheets ready made or homemade puff pastry (if it is ready made, make sure you place it in your fridge overnight to thaw)
  • 1 bunch asparagus
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 1 package Boursin cheese
  • 1/4 cup fig jam (optional)
  • 1 egg (egg wash)

Maple Thyme Glaze

  • 4 tbsp butter, cubed
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 2 tsp fresh lemon thyme (regular thyme is fine)

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 F. In a bowl, mix together the olive oil, salt, pepper, and asparagus (season to your taste). Set aside.  Unroll your puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Cut the sheet into 6 even square pieces.

  2. Place a piece of boursin into the center of the puff pastry square. Take two pieces of asparagus and cut it in half and place it in the center. Add a dollop of fig jam. Fold the two corners of the square into the center. Place on a baking tray and repeat with the remaining squares.

  3. Using a pastry brush, brush the asparagus cheese wraps with an egg wash and place it in the oven. Cook for 20 - 25 minutes or until the pastry is cooked and is golden brown.

Maple Thyme Glaze

  1. Add all the ingredients together in a small saucepan and cook on low heat until melted. Increase the heat to medium-high, cooking the glaze until it bubbles up on the sides (2 minutes). You want to thicken the glaze up a bit. Remove from heat and reserve for when the asparagus & cheese wraps are ready.

Pour on top of warm pastries and enjoy!

Recipe Notes

  • I am a cheater - I use ready-made puff pastry and it is the best choice because it saves time.
  • You can use Brie if you like or any other cheese. I prefer the creaminess of boursin.
  • If your glaze hardens, simply microwave it for 10 seconds to soften it up again.
  • Pastries are best enjoyed the day of. You can make this recipe in advance by assembling and placing the wraps on a baking tray in the fridge without the egg wash. Remove and cook when you are ready!
