Wardrobe Staple: the Perfect White Skirt

You don’t see many white skirts in the city and I think that’s a shame, since I believe white skirts are an absolute wardrobe staple. It is akin to the LBD (little black dress) but black is a been there done that colour. Even though the black pencil skirt is universally flattering, I truly think a white skirt adds that va va voom chic factor we all hope to achieve.

Unfortunately, it is so hard to find a nice white skirt in stores, and the selection online can be iffy. I am looking for that classic white (preferably high waisted) pencil skirt. The fabric shouldn’t be thick but it must have lining. Nothing is worse than wearing a pair of pants or a skirt, feeling like a million bucks only to realize that the lining is sheer.

The skirt I am wearing in the photo is from Australia and incidentally so is the crop top. While I did not have the luck of being in Australia, my sister did. She can vouch that Australia is a shopping Mecca! I would WhatsApp her at 2 in the morning while she was shopping and tell her what I wanted.

This white skirt has seen a lot of a wear and tear. Unfortunately no amount of bleach can bring it back to it’s original stark white colour. Alas I must find a new white skirt but until then I am going to wear this baby out.

White skirts are just as versatile as black ones. I love how the black contrasts  sharply with the white! I personally prefer skirts that are high waisted. They flatter my body better than ones that sit on my hips.

I encourage you ladies to add a white skirt to your wardrobe you will not be disappointed!

If you aren’t planning a trip to Australia, do not fret! There are plenty of adorable online stores that showcase trendy and chic pieces for you to add to your closet. However I must warn you of the following:

  1. while the price of the clothing might not be that expensive – shipping and duties WILL kill you. I happened to learn that the hard way when my duties ended up being the exact price of what I paid for my clothing items. You may be lucky though! My best friend has the luck of the Irish (okay fine she is German) and has only ever needed to pay duties a few times out of the plenty of times she has shopped online.
  2. The sizes do run small so be sure to check and then double check their size guide to make sure what you order will fit. Needless to say there is no point in spending more money to return the item back to Australia or deal with the hassle of selling it online. Be on the safe side and order up. I find their sizes do run a bit small and worst comes to worse if you need to cinch in or hem an item it is better than the alternative.

Some great online stores to check out!
